Tilli Tomas

Yesterday Tilli Tomas instructed us to raise our prices to the new prices posted on our website.

Stay tuned, we plan to hold a one-week sale in the near future, around the week of 9/18.

I'm am as disappointed as anyone that the yarns are no longer available at the "steal" prices they were at. My husband is in retail though and the bottom line is, discounting luxury products at that level undermines the value of the product. Companies such as Louis Vitton, Juicy, don't allow discounting of their products either. It turns the product into a "bargain basement" find instead of the luxury item it is. All retailers could say they are happy to make $5 on a skein as opposed to the actual retail markup, and they will sell like crazy, but unfortunately the value of the product will suffer in the marketplace. So I do understand Tilli Tomas's position. The gorgeous yarns are relatively new, and it's a shame to see the yarn lose it's "luxury" position, and my husband says that discount pricing it will hurt the entire retail market. I sad that I didn't get my order in before the prices went up! Darn.

I'm gonna have to subscribe to your blog so I can be aware of when you have your sale - I was waiting for you to get some different coloured stock in... I am keen to get my hands on some tilli tomas, but I can wait for a sale :)

Thank you for your comments. We will honor the old prices to anybody who placed backorders with us for Tilli Tomas yarns. With respect the the "bargain basement" concept, the problem I have is that Tilli Tomas told us that we had to raise our prices to "level the playing field" -- which to me seems to indicate that other retailers complained. This fosters unfair competition -- it reminds me of a cartel, like the OPEC. But you have an interesting point regarding the "image" that a company wants to for their products.
